Moving to Alwoodley

Alwoodley is the Leeds suburb with many jewels in its crown. It is a prosperous and peaceful region that has fast-become one of the most sought-after areas to live in Leeds.

Alwoodley is home to some of Leeds' most beautiful (and expensive) properties. The area was farmland for many centuries and remained untouched until long after the Industrial Revolution. Then after World War II, beautiful detached properties starting to be built for domestic housing including bungalows and villa-style homes.

There are a number of different residential areas within Alwoodley, which are popular with families – including Alwoodley Park, the Primley Parks, the Sandmoors, the Sunningdales and the Wentworths. The houses on Alwoodley Lane and Wigton Lane are some of the most exclusive in Leeds, if not the whole of West Yorkshire. With plenty of space, greenery and access to the nearby golf courses, there is no wonder these lanes are so popular.

Transport

Alwoodley is located approximately 5 miles (8.0 km) north of the city of Leeds, making it easy to get to the centre to access amazing shopping and the buzzing restaurant and bar scene. Harrogate Road is the A61, which will get you to the city in about 15 minutes or out North towards Harrogate, Ripon and the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

The M1 is within easy access for London-commuters and Leeds Bradford International Airport is just an easy 20-minute taxi ride away.

Eating out 

Although the delights of the city centre are only a stones-throw away, Alwoodley has some great places to eat nearer to home too. The New Inn on Eccup Lane is a nice local pub serving home-cooked food with a welcoming atmosphere. The Olive Branch on The Avenue is a great Mediterranean restaurant with lots of great vegetarian options. And, Amici, located on Harrogate Road is a fantastic authentic Italian restaurant with a great atmosphere, which is very popular with the locals.

There are also many good take-away venues nearby, as well as a Sainsburys and Marks & Spencer for all your groceries.

Leisure 

If you are a keen golfer, then Alwoodley is your dream location! There are three golf courses in the area – Moortown, Sand Moor and Alwoodley – with the latter highly regarded as one of Britain’s finest inland courses. There is also a cricket club, a squash club and two rugby clubs close by as well as a David Lloyd just off the ring road.

The area is also very popular with walkers and runners who head over to the Eccup Reservoir for over 91 hectares of glorious woodland space. Golden Acre Park is also a great open area for those with dogs and the stunning 18th century Harewood House is only a short drive away for a fun day out with boat rides and picnics next to the stately home.

Education

Thanks to its very enviable location, Alwoodley has a number of great schools nearby. This makes it a popular area for families with school-age children. Leeds Grammar School is Yorkshire’s leading independent day school for boys and girls aged 3 years to 18 years and is located on Harrogate Road.

There are also many ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted inspected primary and secondary schools within the catchment area, including, Allerton High School, Alwoodley Primary School, Highfield Primary School, Moortown Primary School, St Paul’s Catholic Primary School and Wigton Moor Primary School.
